Miniature Schnauzer

In November 1928 Mr W. H. Hancock (Enstone) imported the first recorded Miniature Schnauzer. This was a solid black bitch "Enstone Gert van Duinslust", bred in Holland. In 1931 he imported Dutch Champions. "Enstone Ador v. Rheinstolz" and "Enstone Barbel v. Dinghaus", both German bred.
Mrs Simmons (Crowsteps) contributed substantially to breed numbers with many imports largely of Heinzelmännchen breeding. Amongst these imports, all from Germany, were "Reichssiegerin Holde Heinzelmännchen", "Rex Heilbronnia", "Wenzel v. Dornbusch" and the superbly line-bred "Yula v. Leixenstein" and "Zofe v. Leixenstein".
In 1933, Mrs Langton-Dennis (Offley) imported from the United States, "Gretel of Allsworth", who was in whelp to the American Champion "Porgie of Marienhof". Similarly in this period Mrs Pope (Moorland) also imported "Annette of Wollaton" from the United States.
Mrs Rachel Firth imported the American-bred "Dorem Domino" in 1935.

First Schnauzer Champion in the United Kingdom

In 1924 the Duchess of Montrose, President of the Schnauzer Club of Great Britain from 1929 to 1946, imported into the United Kingdom the Austrian bred schnauzer, "Busserl v. Grünen Baum". Other early enthusiasts were Lady Kavanagh, Mrs Jaffray, Captain and Mrs L. Williams and Mr Montgomery Fyfe. Further notable imports in this period were, the German-bred "Bolz von der Brunnenburg of Ashways", "Bruno von der Secretainerie de Chavalard" and  "Klubsieger Gauner von Egelsee of Langwood". The first British-bred champion was Captain L. Williams' bitch "Champion Cranbourne Lupin" in 1932, followed by "Champion Simon de Chavalard" and "Champion Bodo of Ashways".

Giant Schnauzer history in the United Kingdom commenced when Mr G. Blascok imported from Sweden "Riesengarden King Of Pusztemerges", the ownership of which, Donald Becker (Dondeau) assumed ownership when Mr Blascok went to Canada. Again from Sweden Mr Becker imported "Wigsand Ilse" in whelp to "Riesengardens Don", a full brother to "King's dam Riesengardens Bogey". A bitch from this litter "Dondeau Marianne" whelped two liiter to "King" and produced the main British foundation stock. Mrs Mary Moore (Odivane) imported from Holland the first pepper and salt in "Brutus von der Cleyburgh", a mixture of Dutch and German breeding.
